Avery Klanecky is an emerging artist who is interested in memories and nature, and primarily explores these concepts through sculpture and drawing. She is from Charlotte, North Carolina and is currently studying Fine Arts at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, having previously studied at the prestigious University of North Carolina School of the Arts. In 2025, Avery won the silver key in the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards for her piece Drenched.
Artist Statement
In my work, I use careful observation and meticulous creation to explore the world around me and the world within my head. My recent work falls into three categories:
My process often starts with looking inward at my memories and dreams, and pulling moments from them. I use different mediums like watercolor, photography, and collage to piece fragments of memories from my childhood together.
Careful observation of nature is extremely important to my art making. I often work in series or multiple panels in order to explore a subject in depth.
Through their interaction with light, both textures and shadows play a major role in defining depth. Sculpture allows me to use dimensional textures to create shadows, while with drawing and painting I create the illusion of light and texture.
